Given all of the recent changes to the IJF rules it would appear that the BJC are definitely cutting edge in their approach to Judo.
I don't think that anyone would have predicted that Mr Visers reign as head of the IJF and the absence of the Japanese would lead to so many changes designed to realign judo with its original principles. |

Is it time, perhaps for the BJA to disband on the recommendation that all their members join the BJC? _________________ Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. |

The BJA website has announced a large increase in the number of senior judoka, based on the results of the Active People Survey.
http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/home/activepeople.php
It seems the increase doesn't correlate to the increase in BJA membership. The BJA's view point is:
“This increase is particularly promising as those over 16 are historically the group we struggle to attract into the sport. That said, these figures are significantly higher than our adult membership take up and highlight that there is a lot more judo activity around the country, which we could potentially bring under the BJA umbrella”.
Has the BJC membership been growing recently? Where are these players?

At our club in Milton Keynes we have experienced a large increase in our senior membership over the last year or so, many are people who did judo as children and now are returning. The age range is quite broad aswell.
I've no idea if this is reflected in the BJC membership generally. The age group that we are struggling to appeal to and retain are the 12-16 yr-olds. There seems to be so many activities offered through schools that schlepping up tthe local liesure centre is losing its appeal. My suspicion is also that with so many activities available for children in our local area there is a tendency to butterfly from one to the other without any significant commitment to any.
Oh well, we'll be there for them when they wnt ot come home to the Dojo! |
